About Your Captain

Captain Mike

Hi, I’m Captain Mike. I began fishing for plastic fish out of a kiddie pool in the backyard for hours on end at the age of three. My father and uncle tell stories of taking me salmon fishing for an entire morning and not catching anything, and me still crying when we had to go in. (I try to save myself the embarrassment of not crying in front of my clients at quitting time these days, but it’s not always easy!)

My passion for fishing has only grown over the years. In high school, I fished weekly bass tournaments out of an aluminum boat against all of the guys in the fast bass boats. I started first mating on salmon charters on Lake Michigan shortly after completing college and got my captain’s license soon after that.

I now offer fishing charters for various species because variety is the spice of life, and I enjoy catching many species of fish. I target the best fishing offered in Michigan for each species throughout the fishing season. I run walleye charters on the Detroit River in April. May is great for both bass and salmon fishing in Western Michigan. June typically finds me bass fishing on many of the great smallmouth lakes throughout the state. I typically spend the rest of the season fishing for salmon.

Fishing is one of my passions, but my life’s vocation is to positively impact the lives of others, which I live out most days as a full-time pediatric psychologist. Being a blessing to others is very important to me. I also believe in the importance of strengthening bonds between family and friends. I cherish my memories of fishing with my loved ones as well as the opportunity to help my clients create those same memories with their family and friends. I particularly enjoy introducing new clients, especially kids, to the joy and excitement of fishing. My job as your charter captain is to ensure you have a safe, fun, and action-packed experience and help you make a memory that will last a lifetime. I appreciate the opportunity to do so!
